York area bars are crawling with 8 Legs Down and the crowds can't seem to get enough of their funky sound.
The York-based quartet plays everything from '70s funk and disco to modern and heavy rock. Lead vocalist Ron Jones says their sets start off with a bang with new alternative hits, continue with dance tunes like "Brickhouse," "Play That Funky Music," or "Rapper's Delight," and end with "heavy stuff" from Limp Bizcuit and Godsmack for the dedicated night owls.
Expect to hear mainly covers, but 8 Legs Down does possess a few funky originals in its repertoire, written by lead guitarist Patchel Landis. There is no definite release date, but fans can expect a CD from 8 Legs Down sometime in the future. "I give two thumbs up to those bands out there doing all originals," says Jones, "because that is a hard road to travel. It's especially tough around here."
Jones goes on to explain that 8 Legs Down has been self-managed for the past six years since its inception, and claims that "it seems like you need to have Ôbacking' to get into some clubs." But that's OK, the guys are into having a lot of fun. "We're not out to become rock stars," says Jones. "We're just out to have a good time and I think that spills over onto the crowd. Plus, people really dig that retro '70s thing."
Joining Jones and Landis in 8 Legs Down are George Wonder on bass and back-up vocals and Mike Feather on drums and back-up vocals. Jones says 8 Legs Down has had a "mass exodus and entrance of different band members, but we've got who we like and we're gelling quite well together."
